FAQs

We appreciate your interest in City Kids. Joining City Kids is a unique and career rewarding experience and we’ve compiled Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) that relate to the application and hiring process below. Please review this document for our summer specific FAQs.

Unless a specific person is listed in the position description, please e-mail a cover letter and resume to hiring@citykidsdc.org.

Please understand that we get an overwhelming number of resumes and questions. We appreciate enthusiastic and interested workers, however, we have a very small year-round staff we are unable to accept phone calls from applicants. Please refer to our web site for an in-depth review of our programs.

Due to the high number of applicants we are unable to respond to everyone. If we choose to pursue an applicant, we first e-mail perspective employees and then we follow with a phone interview if appropriate. Generally, if you do not hear from us within two weeks of your initial email, we are not considering your application.

We hire on a rolling basis, interviewing until all positions are full. Once the initial interview is complete, we gather references, perform a background check and then negotiate a contract. Because we are interviewing multiple candidates and we often have to wait for references and background checks to be completed so the process can take four to eight weeks from the time you submit your resume.

No, we have a job-training program for our members who are in high school. Because of the challenges our jobs present and the need for extensive outdoor skills, the majority of our staff are college students, college graduates, and graduate students.

Yes, please view our open positions for more information.
