Welcome, Rodney!

The Summit Newsletter

Rodney is a DMV native and has dedicated much of his career to championing organizations whose work is to support and develop youth to be thriving citizens of their community. Prior to joining City Kids, for four years, he worked as the Director of Washington DC’s largest safe-housing provider.

Soon after Rodney joined the CK team this summer, he courageously signed up for a 23-day NOLS backpacking trip through the Rocky Mountains to get a closer understanding of the City Kids experience. Rodney and his group spent four days rock climbing, a new experience for Rodney, hiked almost 90 miles while carrying their 65 lb packs, and practiced the leave no trace wilderness principles.

When he returned to DC, Rodney reflected on the visceral experience and how he became closer to nature in many beautiful ways that he will never forget. He gained a special appreciation and insight for the experience City Kids youth have, especially when they go out for their 24-hour solo experience during their Leadership year.

Rodney has been a wonderful addition to the DC team and we hope you have the opportunity to meet him in the future and ask him about his run-in with a black bear on his trip.
