Snow Club Update

The Summit Newsletter

By Dan Ebert, Development Manager and Victor Medina, Ranger & Mountaineer Program Manager

This January and February, City Kids implemented our first ever Snow Club programming for all youth! As a grantee of Vail Resort + Katz Amsterdam Foundation’s Epic for Everyone Youth Connection to Winter Sports Program, City Kids was thrilled to participate in this to expand youth access to snow sports. Read Vail’s press release here.

Epic for Everyone funding provided participating City Kids youth with free lift tickets, ski gear, transportation, ski and ride school, meals, and equipment rentals for five on-hill ski/snowboarding lessons at Vail’s Whitetail Ski Resort in Mercersburg, PA, under two hours from DC.

Nearly 30 City Kids participated over the course of five trips and were engaged in over 250 hours on the slopes. Each week youth received a two-hour lesson in their sport of choice and had an opportunity to practice those skills for another few hours after lunch.

Over the course of the program, these participants immersed themselves in their choice of skiing or snowboarding and progressively built their skills. Youth not only stepped out of their comfort zone, but they built confidence through mastery of a new sport.
